As we talked about it earlier in this article, becoming a chef is not the only option you have with education and training in the culinary field. For instance, you can pursue a career in managing a hotel, motel and even a resort. As chef career is part of the hospitality industry, management work in hotels and resort becomes available to people who pursue education in the culinary arts. Large hotels and resorts have many different departments and each requiring mangers with different skills and experience. The available positions include reservation managers, hospitality and convention managers and everything in between. Better still, some of the big facilities even have opportunities for you to work as Chef while at the same time managing part of the hotels or resorts.
Restaurant and Food Service Management
Other than taking up management work in hotels and resorts, a candidate trained in the culinary industry is also capable of managing a smaller establishment such as a restaurant and a food service facility. Usually the career opportunities available in these food service facilities are restaurant and food service manager. It is a very rewarding and yet challenging career working as manager in these establishments as people and leadership skills, knowledge of culinary procedures and practices as well as general management skills are essential and are widely used. Most of the jobs in these areas go to people with a degree. Simply put, getting a degree in culinary arts is very important if you intend to go into this section of your chef career.
