How Much Does A Chef Make?

I guess this is probably one of the most important questions to ask before choosing chef as your career. However, one thing I like to point out is your interest and passion in cooking weights more than how much money you make as a Chef. Some people just don’t really mind how much they make in their work because they love what they are doing.

To them, their job is their lives and passion and they just don’t mind doing the same thing over and over again. Simply put, you shouldn’t consider monetary term as a yardstick in determining if you want to go into chef career. Just ask yourselves this simple question, do you like to cook the best food to serve your customer and in return, their satisfaction and praise is your best rewards? If so, then chef career is the right path for you.

Back to the topic of chef earning, chef salaries vary greatly according to region of the country and type of food-service establishment. Salaries are usually highest in elegant restaurant and hotels, where many Executive Chefs are employed, and in major metropolitan areas. Salaries also rise as the sales volume of the operation increases. The following shows the average hourly and annual wage for Chefs and Head Cooks in various industries an locations as of 2009.

Overall, becoming a Chef does make quite a decent amount of money. The above table just shows the average wages for a Chef. An Executive Chef makes an annual salaries of over 100k. This is excluding all the perks and bonuses such as stocks option, profit sharing and performance bonuses which are usually available when you are in the upper management of a company.
